Golden Season
Welcoming September means an end to summer and swift transition into fall in Colorado. Fall is my busiest season for photos, and I am constantly evolving my process and offerings to better serve my clients. Here's a breakdown of how I prepare for fall photo sessions, options in bookings, and a few tips to make your session a success.
I start scouting for good leafy areas in mid-September and am happy to share my findings with clients to best help them find a location that fits their needs. As the leaves change, drop, and continue changing in lower elevations, I continue to update my scouting to keep things as up to date as possible. I can't 100% predict when the last of the leaves will drop or how vibrant they may be each year, but I do my best to be a great resource and help direct fall clients accordingly.
Each year, I start the season by blocking out time for the ever-popular request - mini sessions. These are 20-minutes long, and offer families and couples a session that often results in the photo or series of photos they use for a holiday card or annual family portrait. Mini sessions usually result in a gallery of about 15+ photos. The dates for these sessions are planned well in advance and I select the location. For 2023, I am offering two mini session dates in October that went out first to email subscribers (past clients and those who have asked to joined the list). These dates are in high demand and are often sold out by the time October arrives.
Beyond mini sessions, I offer my regular 40-minute and 60-minute sessions in the fall, just like I do any other time of the year. These are sessions that give us time to chat, allows time for shy kiddos to warm up to photos, and gives us lots of opportunity to move through a location and get a good variety of shots. The 40-minute session is a client favorite and is a really great amount of time for achieving a well rounded set of photos without feeling rushed. These sessions are a great value and offer a significant increase in the number of photos delivered in your gallery.
To book fall sessions, contact me via email here or through any of my social media pages and we will select your session length, date and timing. I'll send out your invoice to make the booking official with payment. From there, we'll stay in contact about weather and location details.
One last quick tip – I have a detailed style guide I can share ahead of our session if styling outfits for photos isn't your strong point or feels overwhelming. My guide is full of suggestions for how to start, what to aim for, what to avoid, and some images to help inspire. I always suggest a mix of earthy and neutral colors, a bit of pattern or texture, and layers when the weather allows. Let me know if it's something you'd like to read ahead of your session.
